The archaeological area contains several ruins, several ruins have been excavated and restored, while several others have been left undisturbed. The area derives its name from two 300-ft pinnacles that the Chacoan Great House overlooks. From the great house, a spectacular view of the mesa, the San Juan Mountains to the east, and the Piedras River valley to the west can be seen. Chimney Rock is located 83 miles northeast of Bloomfield.
